Heritage Trades and Crafts Workshop Program

Silversmithing

Workshops conducted by Toowoomba's own silversmith, Don Ziesemer.

All silversmithing workshops include expert instruction and morning/afternoon tea and lunch on all days. Participants are also required to pay the cost of silver, which depends on the project/s chosen (see below for more details). All silversmithing workshops are for participants aged 16 years and older.

Beginners

  • 29-30 August 2009 - fully booked, but spectators are welcome
  • 3-4 October 2009 - fully booked, but spectators are welcome
  • 7-8 November 2009

Participants learn the basics of soldering, sawing, filing and the correct use of the tools while making a ring, bracelet and/or bangle.

Time: 8:30am-4:30pm
Cost: $200 (including GST) + cost of silver

The cost of the silver will depend on the project/s chosen and participants will have the opportunity to make one or more of the following items:

  1. Ring - $10-$20
  2. Bracelet - $20-$30
  3. Bangle - $30-$40

Casting

  • 18-19 July 2009 - fully booked, but spectators are welcome

Participants learn the basics of sliver casting and will have the opportunity to make pendants, rings and charms.

Time: 8:30am-4:30pm
Cost $210 (including GST) + cost of silver

The cost of silver will depend on the project/s chosen but will be approximately $10-$25 per item.

Intermediate

  • Dates to be set

After completing the beginners workshop, participants are eligible to participate in the intermediate workshop where they will further their skills.

Time: 8:30am to 4:30pm
Cost: $210 (including GST) + cost of silver

The cost of the silver will depend on the project/s chosen.
