Blacksmithing

The blacksmithing workshops are conducted by Australian Champion blacksmith and farrier, Terry Drennan.

All blacksmithing workshops include expert instruction, all materials, and morning/afternoon tea and lunch on all days. All blacksmithing workshops are for participants aged 16 years and older.

Beginners (Floral)

  • 26-27 September 2009

A new workshop, Flowers in Steel is designed as an introduction to blacksmithing. Participants will learn basic forge work and make a decorative flower arrangement.

Time: 8:00am-4:30pm
Cost: $305 (including GST)

Beginners

  • 25-26 July 2009 - fully booked, but spectators are welcome
  • 5-6 September 2009

Participants learn basic forge work by making a range of tools including coal chisel, hot cutter, round punch, oval punch, centre punch and tongs.

Time: 8.30am-4.30pm
Cost: $305 (including GST)

Advanced

  • 24-25 October 2009

After completing the beginners workshop, participants are eligible to attend the advanced workshop where they learn more advanced techniques, including ornamental iron work and forge welding by making a decorative fire poker and rake.

Project

  • 20-21 June 2009 - Knife making - fully booked, but spectators are welcome
  • 1-2 August 2009 - Tool making
  • 14-15 November 2009 - Wall lamp

Participants who have completed the beginners and advanced workshops are eligible to continue to improve their skills by making a range of items.

Time: 7.00am-4.00pm
Cost: $305 (including GST)

Advanced Project (4 days)

  • 10-11 & 17-18 October 2009 - Console table

People who have completed at least one project workshop at Cobb+Co Museum are eligible to participate in this more advanced project workshop which will be conducted over two consecutive weekends.

Time: 7.00am-4.00pm
Cost: $610 (including GST)
