Mrs Insley met us at the door and took us to a special room to see the Australian animals. We all had a turn at touching the echidna, carefully moving our hands as there were lots of spikes (quills). The face and tummy were covered in hair and felt much softer.

Apples, one penny each; a pound of flour, one shilling. I remember going to the Museum and pretending to be a shopkeeper in the Cobb+Co General Store. First I put on a vest and an apron, then I got to work. I sold apples and flour and almost sold it all. I had so much fun being a shopkeeper that I didn't want to leave the Museum.
