Community ExhibitionsLocal community groups are encouraged to take part in the Cobb + Co Museum community windows initiative, whereby community groups can mount small exhibitions in several display windows throughout the Museum complex. The community windows project allows groups within the region to showcase their organisation and activities, helping them to increase public awareness of the important roles these organisations play within the community. Community groups are invited to contact us to discuss developing a special display to highlight their group's activities. The temporary exhibition space is the Groom Gallery, named after William Henry Groom, Toowoomba's first Mayor and only convict elected to the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia.

Past Exhibitions Ellis Rowan - A Flower Hunter in Queensland. Ellis Rowan - A Flower Hunter in Queensland - 1 September to 8 October 2006
The exhibition reflects the rich diversity of the state's native flora from the Border Ranges to the islands of Torres Strait. Ellis Rowan was as remarkable as her paintings and in an era when women were expected to be demure homebodies, Ellis trekked to the most remote and inhospitable parts of Australia and New Guinea in her pursuit of wild flowers to paint. Ellis included Toowoomba in her travels during her second expedition to Queensland in the winter of 1891 and it is believed that she may have returned to the district later to stay with friends, the King family of Craigend Station, Charlton. (Details of any later visits are unknown and Cobb+Co Museum would be pleased to hear from anyone who can provide further information.) In 1912 the Queensland Government purchased 125 Ellis Rowan paintings, which are now held by the Queensland Museum. The collection has rarely been seen in recent decades and this exhibition follows a major conservation and research project.
