Toolburra dray

Description:  This dray, measuring 2 m by 2.7 m, has 2 m long shafts and is typical of this type of vehicle so prevalent on the Darling Downs from 1880s to 1950s. There is a cross-boarded floor which suggests it has been replaced. The wind-on brake on the near side and shaft props are standard dray features. All drays are unsprung.

Colour:  Unpainted body but remains of red paint on the wheels.

History:  Referred to as a three-ton wool dray, this vehicle was purchased by Mr Hector Donald McDonald at South Toolburra clearance sale in 1937 and used by him with one horse to cart wood on his property, Evandale, until it was sold in 1962. (Bolton Collection)
