Street wagonette

Description:  This slightly larger version of the wagonette with a canoe front, has semi-elliptical side springs and seats up to six on the rear side seats. The hood, a standard feature on all these vehicles, is still intact. This version is fitted with a pole for two horses.

Colour:  Black body with beige lining, dark green around the seat; dark green under­carriage with black lining and beige highlights.

History:  Wagonettes came in a variety of forms from smaller versions for private use to larger examples like this one used as taxis. Wagon­ettes seating up to 16 passengers were stand­ard public transport in larger towns and cities. Dated c. 1870 this vehicle was driven from Sydney to Grandchester by early settlers of that district.
