Show sulky

Description:  A straight shaft sulky of fine construction and finish. The sarven hubs and rubber-tyred wheels have protective mudguards. There is the typical three-spring formation common to sulkies and a second step for ease of access on the passenger side. The shafts are 2.1 m long.

Colour:  Black body and undercarriage with very fine Indian red lining.

History:  From the late 1880s the sulky developed into one of the most popular vehicles in Australia. They were first developed in Sydney from the American road cart which had a short lived period of popularity in the United States. This vehicle has a moulded motor seat and curved dash which became fashionable in the early years of this century. (Bolton Collection)
