Description: Slightly larger than other tray sulkies, this pole sulky or cape cart has 1.48 m diameter wheels, sarven hubs, a pole for two horses and a brake. It has mudguards and flaps, vinyl side covers and boot cover. Colour: Black body and pole with thick red and finer yellow lining; wheels and undercarriage are yellow with red lining. History: The name reflects South African influence in the design. The cross bar at the end of the pole is found more commonly on American vehicles. This vehicle was used for longer distance travel. It was manufactured in the Cobb & Co. factory in Charleville and used by James Rutherford, the managing director of the company, to inspect the company’s Queensland operations.
