German wagon H14823
| |
Description: This vehicle was extensively damaged in the 1981 fire. The floor and sides were completely rebuilt using spotted gum but the original iron work was intact and re-used. The pole was cut short because many German wagons continued to work on small farms from the 1940s with the two horses replaced by a tractor. Colour: Blue body with orange-red undercarriage. History: Many local coachbuilders included a German wagon in their catalogue. Mr J. Corney of Gatton near Toowoomba corresponded regularly with The Australasian Coachbuilder and Wheelwright and in 1910 supplied working drawings of a German wagon. Publication in this trade journal guaranteed the popularity of a vehicle design. (Bolton Collection) Registration: H14823
