Farmer’s spring wagon

Description:  The four-wheeled wagon has a driver’s seat, semi-elliptical springs, foot brake, light fittings, hinged tail gate and pole for two horses. The small front wheels assist turning in narrow streets.

Colour:  Indian red body with bright red lines and fine white lining and scroll work; cream undercarriage with red and parallel dark blue lines.

History:  Made by Hamilton’s Coachworks in Chermside c. 1923 then restored and elaborate­ly painted and lined by Mr Alex Hamilton for the Queensland Museum in 1967. The vehicle was used by Bucholtz Bros of Myrtletown to transport their produce, especially grapes, to the Brisbane markets.
